The Joey is Quokka’s cool entry-model shipping container cabin. Internally and externally finished and fitted with an ensuite. The ensuite contains a full-size shower, mirror cabinet, custom vanity and toilet, all designed and manufactured with quality, style, and longevity. Built-in our Australian factory, for Australian conditions, the Joey is complete with commercial grade flooring, internal power points, lighting and an electrical safety box housing an easy 15 amp plug for instant connection.

Quokka Cabins are classified within the Australian building code (BCA) as Class 1A detached dwelling and are compliant with the newly revised National Construction Code (NCC) for liveable housing standards. We can help guide you through the steps required to obtain council certification and approvals that your local government may require. Please note that approvals vary between local governments, and we do not represent that your tiny home will be able to be approved for use as permanent accommodation. Our cabins also achieve a 7-star energy efficiency rating when appropriately sited on your property. We offer optional deck pods and patio roofing kits that integrate with all our designs. Quokka and our sister company, Deking Decks, have the knowledge and experience to guide you through every step of this process.

We have 6 floor plan options. The layouts are not customizable but are set to suit the majority of situations, whether it’s a granny flat to place in your backyard or a boutique hotel style cabin for Airbnb on your property.
Colours, fixtures, fittings, and finishes can all be personalised to suit your unique taste and preference, along with a range of other add-ons including designer lighting packages, deck pods, patio roofs, or roof top decks to make the most of your open air living.
Yes, container cabins typically require council approval, but the specific requirements depend on how the cabin will be used and established.
We can help you engage a certifier to streamline the process and coordinate with all necessary tradespeople to obtain any relevant building and plumbing approvals, if needed.
You will need to hire a local builder or a tradesperson with an owner builder permit to site the cabin upon its arrival at your property. Please note that we do not guarantee approval or certification of your tiny home.
All services within the cabin are set and ready to go. All you need is the relevant tradesperson to connect them to your property and provide their completion certificates for the certifier.
